Afrojack, Bobby Burns and Tony Cha Cha

In honor of it being H2O this weekend in South Africa. Afrojack, who is headlining this event while also be the headline for this post. Bobby Burns and Tony Cha Cha will also be playing at this event and I will give everyone some history about each person and some tracks to download and listen to.

1. Afrojack

In the span of less than 2 years, Afrojack has become one of electronic dance music’s major icons. He began Djing in his native country of Holland and has grown up to become a multi-award winning, platinum-selling producer. His skills are some of the most sought after in the world, and with two Grammy Awards under his belt, it’s easy to see why. In addition to this, his DJ sets have fast become both iconic and unparalleled, providing an explosive take on the current state of dance music across the board.
Starting off in his hometown of Spijkenisse, Nick van de Wall aka Afrojack, quickly made a name for himself with a slew of hard-hitting underground releases, before exploding in 2011 with the unveiling of “Take Over Control” . This also helped solidify his own imprint Wall Recordings as a pioneering club music brand – a value he holds dear as label boss and insures with every release.

Example - Kick Starts (afrojack Remix)

2. Bobby Burns

Bobby started spinning tracks in 1996 and produced his first record in 2002, but in the summer of 2007 everybody in Holland knew his name. His track ‘From Holland’ became one Holland biggest summer anthems of the year, but now we can easily say it was just the start of something big.
The success of Bobby’s track ‘From Holland’, made Afrojack notice his talent. Bobby and Afrojack decided to get together for some time in the studio, which resulted in the releases of ‘Ghettoblaster’ on Spinnin’ Records. ‘Ghettoblaster’ became the start of a long-term collaboration between Bobby and Afrojack.
Almost a year later, Bobby Burns is a solid part of Wall Recordings as he represents the more techy and underground sound of Afrojack’s label. For his releases on Wall Recordings, Bobby teamed up with label-owner Afrojack and Sidney Samson, resulting in four huge releases supported by guys like David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Axwell, Dada Life, just to name a few. In April 2010, Bobby Burns and Afrojack released their first Wall Recordings-collaboration: ‘Real High’. Bobby and Afrojack continued their good work and a few months later they came up with a new collab called ‘Bungee’. The track rocked dance-floors all around the globe and Pete Tong picked the track as an ‘Essential New Tune’ on his BBC1 radio show. Bobby’s latest work for Wall Recordings includes ‘Countdown’, collaboration with Sidney Samson (supported by Tiesto, Diplo and Laidback Luka a.o.) and another electrifying co-production with Afrojack: ‘Bridge’.

3. Tony Cha Cha

At a young age Tony Cha Cha got infected with the musical virus that hasn't left him since.

Tony Cha Cha, born in the Hague (Netherlands) as Dimitrie Siliakus, grew up in the city of Amersfoort. He started his career packed with the dream to turn his hobby into a profession. His first steps consisted of DJing at school-parties and organically grew into landing regular gigs at local clubs in his hometown. In those local clubs is where his undeniable talent was discovered by one of the captains of the house music industries, DJ Jean. Soon, his first residency was a fact in the now defunct, but at the time booming, club IT in Amterdam, Holland.

His unique mixing style together with self-made bootlegs rapidly turned Tony into a definite favorite amongst clubbers and promoters!. This offered him his first big break and marked the first big milestone in his tender career as he was offered a residency at club IT. At the same time he started focusing on the production side of music.

Artist Spotlight: Las Salinas

This weeks artist spotlight features a particularly well established yet still up and coming trance trio that go by the name of Las Salinas. The trio consists of  three talented producers: Israel Bicher, Shaulli Harrari, and Liran Cohen- each a native Israeli. Individually, these prodigies had been producing music for many years, but had decided to collaborate only two years ago in 2010. In Israel, they are residents of several successful night clubs and have also DJed at several famous trance events, one of which being HaOman 17. Since then, they have received support from huge artists such as Above and Beyond, Paul van Dyke, Ferry Corsten, and Michael Woods. In this post I will be including two of their most well known and recent tracks, “El Clasico” and “Stone Pony”. Personally, I believe their sound to be a perfect blend of hard hitting bass-filled beats that simultaneously maintain a true classic trancey sound- something that keeps their music refreshingly true to it’s element. “El Clasico”, which was released on Lange Recordings, was played on TATW #438 and consists of a lighter, more soothing trancey feel. In contrast, “Stone Pony”, which was released on Vandit Records and played on TATW #436, is a hard-hitting gem decorated with elegant and melodic trancey sounds. If you’re a true trance head, (and even if you’re not!) you should definitely have a listen to these tracks. Enjoy!

[Release]: Kaskade – Llove (Dada Life Remix)

with their latest single still sitting comfortably in Beatport’s top 10, the Swedish Dada Land ambassadors and masters of the fuzz follow up ‘Feed The Dada’ with the long-anticipated release of their remix of Kaskade’s ‘Llove’.
Taking an unexpected turn from their grinding signature sound, the duo ditch Kaskade’s piano-laden instrumental for a mixture of fist-pumping highs and soothing lows. Packing a vital punch of thick drums and jangling overtones, Olle and Stefan match the divine voice of Haley with heavy-stepping beat work and invigorating energy throughout.

Calvin Harris feat. Florence Welch – Sweet Nothing (Tiësto Remix) [PREVIEW]

it looks like there really is no slowing down for the mega producer/DJ we all know as Tiesto. After a huge year with tracks like “We Own the Night” and “Hell Yeah” among many others, he has now taken on Calvin Harris’s “Sweet Nothing.” This preview reminds me of throwback Tiesto during the glory days of progressive and trance. There is no doubt that this track is slated for a massive reception from both fans of Calvin and Tiesto. Check back with us on October 14th for the full release including remixes from Qulinez, Dirtyloud and more.

Artist Spotlight: Danny Avila

Chances are, you haven’t ever heard of Danny Avila. Slowly but surely this 17 year old prodigy hailing from Spain will make his way to your speakers and that is a promise. Danny began his journey into EDM from an early age as he is the son of a famous interior designer who had worked at the biggest nightclubs in Spain who hosted acts such as Fedde le Grande, Afrojack and more. Now he is set to embark on his own massive U.S. Tour, including his debut in NYC at the Stone Rose Lounge. If I had to compare his mixing skills to one DJ it would have to be Kaskade. This kids ear for house and electro is unheard of at such a young age. Subsequently, he will be opening for Kaskade at Lavo NYC on Thursday night and will also be at Pacha NYC on Friday night. Other notable upcoming performances including opening for Tommy Trash at LIV, and Electric Adventure at 6 Flags. Let me know what you think of this brand new mix from Danny and stay tuned for more from this young star.

John Dahlback – Sing That [PREVIEW]

The preview we are graced with, his newest track “Sing That”, does not fall short from his recent releases. In fact, it happens to be one of my favorites that he has released the entire year. This track features the classic Dahlback sound: deep, exotic chords decorated with drums that will just keep you moving. It’s true that I’m a bit biased, as I admittedly am a die hard Dahlback fan and probably would vouch for ANY of his tracks, but have a listen to the track yourself- it is if anything different and refreshing. Dahlback shows us especially with this tune that a track need not be complicated and embellished to be truly good. Keep an eye out for this gem on September 24th.
